Microsoft Confirms Windows 10 Mobile for all devices, but there is a Twist

For a while now, there is a great suspense on what devices will be getting an Upgrade to Windows 10 Mobile. Although initially they told that every Windows phone 8+ devices will be getting Windows 10 Mobile but their statements have changed now and then creating this suspense.

Few weeks ago they announced a list of In-Market devices that will get the upgrade first of all. It included the recently ‘Windows 10 Ready’ announced devices Lumia 640/XL together with Lumia 430, 435, 532, 535, 540, 635 (1GB), 735, 830 and 930. However then again they put a contradicting statement as- “8 GB of Internal memory required”
Now on another page Microsoft has again confirmed that this will be a requirement for all Windows 10 Mobile handsets going forward, as the OS uses at least 5 GB of storage on an 8 GB device. This seems to be already an optimized situation already, as it uses 6 GB on a 16 GB device and 7 GB on a 32 GB device.

This time in response to a wmpu’s query, they have said-

Regarding your questions around the W10 update, there is an initial list of in-market devices to receive the Windows 10 update but there are ambitions to bring Windows 10 to all Lumia devices running Lumia Denim software. Some features will vary, based on the hardware specifications however.
So what can we conclude now? It seems that there will be a twist in how the update will be delivered to different Windows Phone 8 devices based on the Hardware. Since Windows 10 Mobile will be coming with a lot of bundled apps including Maps, Calculator, etc. that takes internal storage, we may not see these apps on devices having internal memory less than 8 GB like Lumia 530. However, it might be downloaded from the store later, most probably to SD card.

Being optimist, we can say that indeed all the current devices will be getting the new update, but the lower internal memory devices have to compromise here and there.
